The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™

The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™
~~~~~~
“Field Recommendations Guide”
First, Let’s Remember a Few Important Factors:
Deer and other large game animals use ALL of their senses to detect potential danger and flee from it. Here, we are dealing with their acute sense of smell, but their eyesight and hearing are as keen as their noses. The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ (using the Patented MOXY™ Molecule) will take care of your odor problems, if used in accordance with the following recommendations. However, never forget your quarry’s other senses, sight and hearing. Please remember my new adage, “Now you’ve got to Just Sit Still and Be Quiet!!”
The problem that you may develop is that you become so confident using The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ that you forget to consistently take these other senses into account. We, at MOXY™ Products, certainly don’t want you to get careless with reckless movement or noise, get busted and blame us for your over confidence in our product. Hey, even I blew a photo shoot once with a buck 5 steps from my blind because I wanted to see an oncoming, bigger buck alerting another buck 20 yards away.
One major problem that is largely unknown and not properly addressed today is the use of UV (Ultraviolet) Brighteners in camo apparel. Yes, even camo clothing has UV Brighteners used in the cloth, especially Blaze Orange. Most foreign-made (Asia) camo clothing is printed on white cloth which has been “enhanced” with UV Brighteners. So much cloth is available with UV Brighteners that it is cheaper to use that cloth than to use non-treated cloth. So, you have a dilemma, inherent to that underlying cloth, that you thought you were taking care of by not using phosphate-laden detergents. Isn’t it ironic, even in your new Camo, you may be more visible to deer than another hunter wearing Blaze Orange is to you? How can you be sure? What can you do about this largely unknown problem? Take a few minutes to see a helpful video on this important subject, available at http://www.atsko.com:80/videopage.html. You will have to decide for yourself which hunter’s detergent to use and whether to use a UV killer product. I think it is worth the money to purchase a UV test kit, or buy a black light, so you can test your camo clothing’s UV reflection. You will be amazed at what you see.
Even if you take care of the UV problem, you must still learn, or re-learn, to sit still!! Any sudden movement will alert a wary game animal, especially deer. Make only deathly-slow movements, eyes first before head or body. Set your stand or blind in a place where you have good cover on all sides (if possible), especially from behind, so your silhouette is unnoticeable. Be content with less area to watch and settle in on a good trail or two. “Rubbernecking” to cover 180 degrees or more of area will certainly get you busted.
Lastly, you need to be quiet!! Too much noise, especially noises foreign to game animals, will spook them and get you busted. A deer will alert to the first noise. The second sound will pinpoint your location, guaranteed. Be careful not to overuse game calls. These too, will alert game animals to your exact position.
Now that we have the “Sit still and be quiet!!” problem straight, let’s look at the proper use of The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ and other, common-sense recommendations for your overall Scent Elimination and Control.
MOXY™’s Use & Field Recommendations:
No matter how good a hunter you are, you need every advantage you can find to put yourself in the best possible position to harvest a trophy animal. Game animals are not so worried about human scent alone, but every scent that is unnatural to them. Whether you use scent control, scent containment or cover scent products, there are still ancillary odors, foreign to deer, that you may pick up in your truck, a restaurant or even your home, that will go with you into the woods and get you “busted”. The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ is a different product altogether. Other current technology attempts to merely control or mask human and other foreign odors. However, MOXY™ Technology™ actually eliminates existing odors AND eradicates the very microorganisms that cause odor, i.e. bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus (It takes 18 hours for new bacteria to multiply sufficiently to emit new odor.). You no longer enter the woods with just another scent cover; you are actually SCENT-FREE!! MOXY™ gives a hunter an unparalleled and overwhelming advantage over the super-sensitive noses of his or her quarry. Here are some time-tested methods to assist you in the control of human and ancillary odors trapped in your hunting clothing.
Keep in mind that MOXY™, or any other scent treatment, can only kill the bacteria and other odor causing microorganisms with which it has “coincidental contact”, therefore, you must always make a way for MOXY™ to contact the areas you want to treat. In other words, NEVER OVERSTUFF YOUR GARMENT TREATMENT BAG!!
Recommendations for your preparation to hunt:
- Not so surprisingly, most hunters pick up unwanted odors from their own vehicles and carelessly carry them into the woods. When you are planning your hunt, clean out your travel vehicle, whether truck, SUV or car, hours before or better yet, the prior evening. Be certain to remove smelly objects like old, sweaty clothing and shoes, leftover fast food bags, soiled rags, papers or towels, chemicals and gas cans. Remove all floor mats and vacuum thoroughly. Then, take the MOXY™ Unit and set it in the passenger side floorboard. Generally, the A/C return-air intake is on the passenger side. Plug The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ into the cigarette lighter (12V) and set the timer for 30 minutes. Idle your vehicle and turn on the A/C, setting it on “Recirculation” or “Inside Air”, with the fan on high and some vents aimed down and others up and to the rear. This enables the MOXY™ to be more directly pulled into you’re A/C System and circulated throughout the vehicle. The MOXY™ Molecules will begin to cleanse the fabrics, ceiling and carpets in your vehicle, removing odors that would be transferred to your clothing as you drive. If you are a smoker, you will have to treat the vehicle several times as MOXY™ will, at first, remove the dried oils and tars that form a tough, waxy surface covering the trapped, pungent cigarette/cigar odors. Because of this, it is very likely that after the first treatment, your vehicle will smell worse as those trapped odors are released. One or two additional treatments, at no sooner than 1 hour intervals, may be necessary, especially if you have smoked long in that vehicle and if you have fabric seats and carpeting. You may also try lightly spraying your seats, carpets and other fabric materials, including the ceiling, with a 50:50 mixture of ammonia and water (use Sudsy Ammonia™ if you can find it or make your own “Soapy Ammonia” – directions can be found online at http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Soapy-Ammonia-Cleaning-Solution). The soapy ammonia water will penetrate the outer layers of the fabric, loosening dirt and oils. MOXY™ hates ammonia and will penetrate the fabric more easily and deeply to attack the ammonia. Once there, MOXY™ will kill all bacteria and other odor-causing microorganisms that it comes in contact with, including the ammonia smell.
Also, be sure to fill your fuel tank the day before you hunt so that you do not pick up unwanted, lingering odors at the gas station.
- Whenever possible, bathe before you hunt. Use a good Hunter’s soap for body and hair. The hairy areas of your body are also the sweaty areas and where odors accumulate. Also, if you have an extra bathroom in your home that is rarely used, bathe there as there are fewer odors from perfume, hairspray and other odiferous products. It would also be helpful to keep the trashcan empty and to run the MOXY™ Unit in that bathroom occasionally.
- When you get ready to rinse off in the shower, turn the water as cold as you can stand to close your pores. This will keep internal bacteria from coming through your pores as you get dressed. Very important!!
- Be careful about what you eat and drink the night before you hunt. Certain foods and beverages, especially alcoholic ones, tend to permeate through your pores during digestion. Garlic, onions and fatty or spicy foods are known culprits. Beer and hard liquor also permeate the skin. Certain foods and beverages promote extended gaseousness. Excessive burping and flatulence in the field can get you busted by a wary buck or doe. If you are extraordinarily susceptible to such problems and want to be extra careful, you may want to use a special, scent-absorbing head cover to capture your bad breath or use one of the new mouth spray or gum products.
- Before I get dressed, I put my hands, face and hair in the MOXY™ exhaust, further deodorizing those outer surfaces of my body. Don’t worry; MOXY™ is safe to breathe.
- DO NOT use your everyday towels to dry off with after showering. Use a towel that has been treated with MOXY™ to eliminate any residual odor and bacteria. You can easily store several MOXY™-Treated towels in a Ziploc™-type “Big Bag” (see Note 9 below) with other hunting apparel. Use no Fabric Softener!!
- Use a Scent-Free, Hunter’s deodorant/antiperspirant to lessen potential underarm sweat.
- When washing your hunting apparel, use only a good, effective hunter’s detergent, proven to have no added scents and no phosphates which produce an ultraviolet (UV) reflection that the deer can clearly see. Follow the directions! As mentioned at the beginning, your camo may be more visible to deer than another hunter wearing blaze orange is to you. Be sure to properly address this inherent problem with UV Brighteners in foreign-made camo clothing.
- Storing your Hunting Apparel: If you need to wash your soiled hunting garments but do not intend to hunt for several days or weeks, you still need to store them in a clean and scent-free environment. If you have the time, go ahead and treat them with The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ and store them for the next hunt. I suggest that you buy the Ziploc™-type “Big Bags” to store both your washed and MOXY™-Treated clothing. I always start by cleansing my hands with MOXY™ (hold your hands over the MOXY™ exhaust port for 30 seconds), to rid them of human scent and other odors, before handling my cleaned and treated clothes. Next, I hold the “Big Bag” open above the MOXY™ Unit’s exhaust port and give it a good 30 seconds’ treatment. Once I put the clothes in the bag and seal it, the MOXY™ remains active for up to 20 minutes, leaving the bag and contents safe from further contamination. When sealing the “Big Bags”, get most of the air out of the bags for better storage and less chance of contaminated air remaining inside. Yes, your home contains many odors that are unnatural to deer and other game animals.
To thoroughly deodorize and eradicate scent from your hunting clothing, first treat your hands as mentioned above before handling your clothing. Hang the properly washed clothing you intend to wear on your next outing inside the MOXY™ Garment Bag. It is 24”w x 12”d x 60”t and can handle up to six garments at once and two pairs of boots. Use the special hanger so that you can provide separation between your garments. Remember, MOXY™ can only kill the bacteria and odor-causing microorganisms it comes in contact with, so Never overstuff the Garment Bag!! Connect the MOXY™ Exhaust Tube to the MOXY™ Garment Bag port and turn the Unit on. The automatic timer is set for your choice of 15 or 30 minutes. Additional MOXY™™ Garment Bags, including the Short Garment Bag for in-vehicle use, and other accessories may be purchased online at our website, (www.MOXYproducts.com).
Tip 9.1: Do not overweight your MOXY™ Garment Bag. When treating multiple pairs of boots and clothes together, place some item of support under the bottom of the Bag to take the strain off the hanger and the closet rod. This will prolong the life of your MOXY™ Garment Bag and not hinder the treatment process.
Tip 9.2: I keep extra hangers with clips for hanging pants and other long garments. Folding pants and clothing over a hanger is not recommended because MOXY™ will be hindered from getting inside tight folds.
Tip 9.3: When in a pinch or if you need to treat more clothes than your MOXY™ Garment Bag will hold in one treatment, you can use a 39-gallon leaf bag with tie straps --This is what I used during my six years of testing. Cut a small, 1-inch hole in the top middle of the bag for the hanger(s) to pass through and tie off the bottom of the bag to the MOXY™ Exhaust Tube. Treat as stated above. Remember, do not overstuff the bag!! I recommend no more than two garments per leaf bag. Multiple bags may be necessary. Just tie off the bottoms after each treatment. You can reuse the trash bags over and over again, so pack a couple of extra bags, just in case you need them or you want to treat a buddy’s clothes to show off your MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™. I also use the handy, leftover bags for trash, dirty clothing, etc.
Tip 9.4: If you have a group at your hunting camp, I recommend purchasing our specially-designed MOXY™ Garment Closet available for purchase on our website (www.MOXYproducts.com). The Garment Closet is 36”w x 24”d x 60’t and can handle up to a dozen garments at once.
- Always be certain to treat your cap, handkerchief, facemask, gloves, seat cushion and other items that are worn externally. If you carry a pack, knapsack or belly bag, it is very important to treat them as well. Simply remove the articles from them and treat them in the MOXY™ Garment Bag. I use a hanger with clips (or even clothes pins) to more easily hang most of these large items on one or two hangers. (For best results, treat such items by placing the MOXY™ Exhaust Tube inside the individual pockets of your pack or bag for a few minutes each.) Also, set up your Ground Blind, all windows closed, and put the MOXY™ Unit inside it, treating it for 20 minutes.
- Once treated, leave your clothes in the Garment Bag(s) until you are ready to put them on. (You may want to treat the clothes again for 5 minutes, right before you put them on, as the newly created, active MOXY™ Molecules will also cleanse your skin of any newly acquired bacteria and odors.) You may then want to transfer the MOXY™-Treated clothes to a Ziploc™ “Big Bag” (see Note 9 above); especially if it is an outer garment that you intend to put on once you have reached your destination.
- Boots can be a big problem for hunters, throwing off a lot of odor, especially boots with leather and fabric uppers, which collect human and other odors foreign to deer. However, MOXY™ will make your leather and fabric boots undetectable, like never before (see the second story below). Nearly all rubber boots have a horrible factory odor that is difficult to remove, even over time. MOXY™ can handle it. If you have often sweated heavily in your boots, then odors and bacteria will be trapped deep inside the lining and padding, requiring longer treatment, penetrating deeper than the surface levels. If you have removable insole padding, take it out and wash them regularly with “hunter’s soap” or replace them often. If not, use full strength “Sudsy Ammonia™” (or make up some “Soapy Ammonia” as indicated above in Note 1) and spray inside your boot, especially on the foot pad, then treat for 20 minutes or longer as necessary. (MOXY™ will also help to dry your boots.) MOXY™ will also remove that horrible factory odor from new rubber boots.
For a thorough treatment of your boots (especially leather and fabric boots or new rubber boots), place your boots inside the Garment Bag, as per the instructions. This will allow the MOXY™ Molecules to treat every part of your boots, including the exterior and sole.
Many times, I take my MOXY™ Unit with me and, treat the inside of my boots again for a couple of more minutes just prior to entering the woods. I just place the Exhaust Tube in each boot for a few minutes. This treats any odors picked up by my socks while dressing, walking around the house or traveling.
Remember to treat your boots before every hunt. Odors and bacteria hidden deep within the lining are difficult to contact and treat. By treating before each hunt, you will effectively treat the surface and near surface odors/bacteria and be safe from detection.
- I highly recommend that you use a pair of non-insulated Coveralls for your outer layer of clothing. (Buy one size larger than you normally wear so that you can easily slip the over your regular garments.) Keep the MOXY™-Treated coveralls in the “Big Bag” until you reach the spot where you leave your vehicle and enter the woods. You may even want to take the MOXY™ Unit along with you and treat your Coveralls right before you put them on, thus treating the garment layer directly underneath as well. This takes care of odors you may have picked up in your clothing along the way. Now, the only odors that the coveralls will pick will be from the woods and natural to your quarry.
Tip 13.1: If you take your MOXY™ Unit with and want to treat your coveralls before you put them on, I suggest that you take a 39-gallon leaf bag and two hangers, one regular and one with clips. Hang the coveralls on the regular hanger, and then clip the end of the legs to the other hanger. As most vehicles have only limited vertical hanging space, this gives you better treatment for your unfolded coveralls. The leaf bag is much shorter and narrower than the Garment Bag. We will have a Short Garment Bag, for in-vehicle use, on our website, but you can also use this handy tip as I have.
- If you stay out at a base camp for several days (and have access to a 12 volt battery system), MOXY™ can be of great assistance. This means that you can come in all dirty, muddy, bloody and smelly from a successful morning hunt, treat your clothes and go out that afternoon still dirty, muddy and bloody, but SCENT-FREE
- If you own an expensive Carbon Suit, MOXY™ can greatly prolong its life and effectiveness. Besides removing odor and odor-causing microorganisms captured and contained in the suits, MOXY™ will rejuvenate the Carbon Fabric after washing, restoring much of its “absorptive capacity”, by cleansing the Carbon’s pores of the trapped soap and bacteria. (Yes, even after manufacturer-recommended drying, trapped odor and bacteria can continue to live and breed in the Carbon Fabric which, if untreated, will eventually give off new odors of its own. Carbon Fabric captures and contains odor and bacteria but does not actually destroy them.) Carefully read and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. For Carbon Suits, treat with MOXY™ and put on last as recommended, storing them in a “Big Bag” after treatment. Return your Carbon Suit in a “Big Bag” immediately upon returning to your vehicle. Never give an opportunity for new, foreign odors to attach themselves to your expensive Carbon Suit, as you don’t want to wash them very often. Remember, MOXY™ will greatly extend the life and performance of your expensive Carbon clothing.
- When dressed to hunt, avoid gassing up your vehicle, eating in a restaurant, kitchen or dining room that is contaminated with smoke and odors from what you are eating. If at all possible, shower and dress after you eat. Do not go to a restaurant in your freshly-treated clothes! Wait and go after hunting later, when it doesn’t matter, you’re really hungry and have time to tell your day’s story.
Do not meet your hunting buddies before the hunt at a rendezvous where there is a chance of picking up foreign odors on your clothing.
- If you have a hunting camp or you are an outfitter, MOXY™ can go with you wherever you go. As it is DC powered (12v), you can use it in your vehicle or with other auxiliary battery setups. You can treat the clothes you wore for the AM hunt for a later PM hunt. This means that you can come in from a successful morning hunt all dirty, muddy, bloody and smelly, treat your unwashed clothes with MOXY™™ in the field, and go out that afternoon still dirty, muddy and bloody but SCENT-FREE!! This is most important when in the field for days at a time, enabling you to pack less clothing, giving more room for other necessities. I found it best to air dry your soiled, sweat-soaked clothing first before retreating them. Treating damp clothing will require the MOXY™ Unit to dry the clothes before total, effective treatment can occur. Also, wet clothing sticks together and makes more difficult for the MOXY™ Molecules to get to all clothing surfaces and kill the bacteria therein. I also highly recommend treating your sweaty underwear (air dry first) to kill the bacteria which cause unwelcome and debilitating rashes that could totally ruin your next “spot and stalk”.
Also, if you have a hunting cabin which is susceptible to mold, mildew, fungus and mustiness, use your MOXY™ Unit to cleanse the cabin of these irritants. Two 30-minute treatments in a small cabin should do the job. For an initial treatment, first open the windows and air out the cabin for an hour, with all room and closet doors open. Close the windows. Then, with all room and closet doors remaining open, turn on the MOXY™ Unit for 30 minutes. Use a fan(s) to better help circulate the MOXY™ Molecules through the air during treatments. Wait an hour and treat again as before. (Remember, old bedding, towels and other thick materials can contain molds and allergens that will require cleaning.) For best results, buy a second MOXY™ Unit and rig it to a timer so that the cabin can be treated regularly throughout the year. Thirty (30) minutes, twice each week (after thorough initial treatments) should keep your cabin free of odors, mold, mildew and fungus, not to mention harmful germs and allergens, throughout the year.
- If you have multiple layers of clothing to treat or if you have a group at your hunting camp, I recommend buying a “Jumbo Garment Closet”. These can be found at “Bed, Bath and Beyond” and other fine stores for around $20. The one I use is sized for coats and dresses, 24”x20”x54”, plenty tall enough for most bib overalls and coveralls. It’s wide enough for 5-8 garments on hangers. Remember, even here, do not pack the clothing in too tightly as MOXY™ can only kill the bacteria and odor-causing microorganisms it can contact. You will need to use a little ingenuity to make a strong, workable, permanent connection to the bag so that you can quickly attach the MOXY™ unit to the Jumbo Garment Closet. I used a plumbing connection with rubber flanges. Size the fittings to match your MOXY™ tube/hose. It works great!! We will have a specially-designed MOXY™ Garment Closet available for purchase on our website at www.MOXYproducts.com.
- I would highly recommend that you take a “Pee Bottle” with you. There is a debate whether deer and game animals are affected by the smell of human urine. It is certain that they use their own urine to transmit messages to one another like, “I’m in heat”, “This is my territory”, or “This is what I think about your territory!” So, why take the risk? Take a bottle and use it!!
- Often, I will take the MOXY™ unit with me to the hunting site, treating my outer layer of clothing as I travel. In this way, when I put them on, MOXY™ is still active (up to 20 minutes), eliminating other ancillary odors I may have accidentally picked up during my trip. I will also treat my hands, face, hair, cap, gloves and even my boots once again for good measure, just before entering the woods. Finally, it’s Advantage Me!!
- Now, just SIT STILL and BE QUIET!!
Lastly, let me give you some actual accounts of the effectiveness of MOXY™.
a) Previously, I was a Stock Broker in Ocala, Florida. I planned to hunt one December afternoon, leaving around 2:30 PM to get to my stand. I didn’t have time to go home and shower, so I brought my clothes in my vehicle and treated them with The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ for 20 minutes before changing into them. That morning, as usual, I had showered with regular deodorant soap, washed and conditioned my very thick hair with regular products, shaved and put on aftershave, used regular deodorant and sprayed on a little cologne. The office was also full of Holiday smells that I also collected on my person during the day, especially when hugging some of my dear, little old lady clients. Well, I changed into my freshly-treated clothes the office bathroom. I headed out in my vehicle with cloth seats, which I had absent-mindedly forgotten to treat. When I arrived at the property, I treated my hat and gloves then hurried to my stand and climbed up. I felt a perfect 5-7 mph wind blowing directly in my face. The temperature was in the low 60s (Florida winter weather) and I thought everything would be perfect until I noticed a fresh blow down which almost totally blocked my line of sight to a major trail. I didn’t have time to go elsewhere, so I climbed down, went forward about 60 yards and hunkered down next to a large fallen tree trunk. About 30 minutes passed without incident when, all of a sudden, I got that creepy feeling that something was behind me. Slowly and painstakingly, I repositioned myself to see 2 does and 3 yearlings feeding up behind me, directly downwind. Once turning to watch, I was stuck and couldn’t move. They continued to feed on acorns into a patch of low palmettos and got within 10 yards of me. They browsed around for another twenty minutes or more, directly downwind of me, always within 10- 20 yards and never had a clue I was there. Finally, they casually fed away. There was still another hour of light left, but I was so stunned and amazed at the performance of the MOXY™ treatment that I just got up and went home, happier than if I had bagged a trophy buck.
You see, the MOXY™ Molecules remain active for up to another 20 minutes after initial treatment to eradicate odor-causing bacteria. The MOXY™ in my freshly-treated clothing also treated my skin and under garments, which I had not changed. Once at my parking place, I also put my head, hair and hands in the MOXY™ exhaust and re-treated my gloves, face netting, hat and boots. Even the aftershave and cologne was removed. I then realized that through MOXY™, it was finally Advantage Me!!! Now, I just have to remember to SIT STILL and BE QUIET!!
b) I used to wear boots with all-leather uppers. Hunting in Florida, especially in early season, I tend to sweat profusely. Once I started treating my hunting apparel with MOXY™, I always treated my leather boots heavily because they really smelled awful and are known to throw off a lot of scent. Wearing my MOXY™-treated leather boots and no scent killer or cover scent; I actually had a spike walk directly up my trail within five minutes of getting into my stand, picking up acorns on either side of my boot prints without a care in the world. Becoming undetectable was a remarkable improvement. That very season, I almost stepped upon a big rattlesnake, so I scrapped those leather boots and bought some rubber snake boots which work very well for me for both types of protection. When it turns cold (yes, a breezy 27 degrees with 7o%+ humidity is very cold in Florida!!), I generally use a pair of light-weight insulated boots. Thankfully, the snakes don’t like the cold either. You should not shy away from using the boots that you are most comfortable in, whether leather, fabric or rubber. Just be sure to treat them with The MOXY™ Scent Elimination System™ every time you prepare to hunt.
